About Us

Lee originally studied Fine Art restoration while working for one of Wellington’s first Art Dealers & Art Restorer G. W. Dowling at The Williston Gallery, Williston St. Wellington in 1969.

He subsequently studied art restoration & conservation with Osborne Fine Arts in Tinakori Rd WLG for a number of years before setting up his first studio in 1976.

 

His expertise in fine art restoration & conservation is with oil paintings and water colours. Only the finest paints & materials are used to ensure a credible long -lasting result.

 

As well as numerous privately owned works Lee has had the privilege of working on a considerable number of important historical paintings including works by Frances Hodgkins, C.F. Goldie, G.W.Baker, Margaret Stoddart, C.D. Barraud, John Gully, J. C. Hoyte, Petrus Van Der Velden and many others.

 

Lee had a full page feature piece written about his work by Bethney McLennan in The Dominion Paper in Feb. 1999. The article details Lee’s love of his work & his meticulous approach to the restoration and conservation of the paintings that are intrusted to him.

 

Lee is also a highly skilled gilder and frame repair artisan who is able to completely restore/ repair/ refurbish and gild frames in any condition.
